Ayurveda and Water Healing

About 71% of the earth is covered with water, we all learn this from class 2 itself. Yeah! 71% of water and the rest is land. Water is the foundation of our existence; in Ayurveda we can find some important summaries about the water in Astanga Sangraha. Life without water is beyond imagination, it's very necessary for the survival of the living things. Early evolution began near the water sources, it's not only important for the living, drinking, transport, trade and cultivation.
Our body needs surplus water every day, for digestion, activation of enzymes, the appearance of an organic compound and properties, a universal solvent; it removes lethal substances from the body and lubricates the cavities like joints.
Water in Ayurveda is explained in several ways, Water is known as the Jeeva (life), sheetala (cold), Ruchikara (tasty).
Ayurveda says water has six different tastes; sweet (madhura), sour (amla), salty (lavan), astringent (katu), bitter (tikta), and astringent (kshaya).
In Ayurvedic terms there are some facts of water; it gives life (jeevanashraya) and wholesome for everyone (pathya).
Some of the popular synonyms of water in India are;
Paani- water
Nira-pure liquid
Jala- natural cold water
Salila- free-flowing water
Vanamruta-spring
Vari- free-flowing water
Bhuvana- water
Water can mainly be stored in some metal containers like;
Suvarna (golden), Rajatha (silver), Tamra (copper), Kamsya (bronze) and an earthen vessel (mud pot).
Cooper is best and most commonly used metal to store water, overnight stored water has many health benefits, it must be consumed empty stomach every morning. Some health benefits of water and cooper combinations are it heals the digestive and has the cold potency. Cooper can be used for the condition of ascetic, skin disorders, cough or pulmonary tuberculosis, worm infection.
Traditionally, water is used by adding some herbs for daily drinking purpose. Adding some herbs can enhance our health, herbs like Tulsi (ocimum sanctum) and ginger helps in reduction of cough and the common cold. Jeera (cuminum cyminum) relives in joint pains.
Natural methods are used in purifying water even today, many developing countries use the sun rays for water purification.
Through the arrival of monsoon the water-born diseases are commonly seen, Diseases like Cholera, Typhoid's and Dysentery are common water-born diseases and to avoid these some major steps are to be taken like boiling water, using a modern water purifier.
Panchakarma in Sanskrit means "five actions" or "five treatments". This process is used to clean the body toxic material left by diseases and poor nutrition's.
Five steps of Panchakarma are;
Pretreatment- before the beginning of Panchakarma the oiling and heating of the patient is done to bring out the toxins through the digestive path.
Therapeutic Vomiting- through vomiting the patient feels relief and comfortable with the clearing of the sinus through an Ayurvedic drink.
Purgation therapy- purification of the blood toxins.
Enema- flushing out the toxins through the intestinal tracts, there are 100 specific Enema in Ayurveda.
Nasal administration- inhaling vapor from medicinal herbs infused in boiling water eliminates the problem of eyes, ears, and nose and throat disorder.
Bloodletting-it eliminates blood toxins absorbed in the blood stream through the gastrointestinal tract. It purifies blood.
If administered properly through a qualified physician develops the immune mechanism in the blood system.
